Dowd Junction Pre-Kindergarten - 8th Grade
"Homestake Peak School"

Since the construction of the New Battle Mountain High School the existing structure (in the distance) was made vacant. The District chose to
close Meadow Mountain Elementary (structure on right) and Minturn Middle and combine them into a new Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade school
housed in the Old Battle Mountain.  TAB Associates, Inc. provided programing for the new school type in the District as well as complete
Construction Documents.  The existing 120,000 square foot building is being renovated to provide for the new grades. Renovation
includes Mechanical and Electrical upgrades, upgraded insulaton values, new finishes throughout and classroom  reconfiguration of about 30,000 square feet.
In addition, many renovations occured to bring items which were no longer code compliant for the National Building Code and Accessibility Codes.

Existing Front Entry Stair
New Front Entry Stair
The main entry stair was updated with new stainless steel railing infill, existing wood
framed seating was removed and VCT flooring was replaced with carpet.
Existing East Wall Cafeteria
New East Wall Cafeteria
Eating in the Cafeteria should be more exciting now.  The original cafeteria was dark and old.
The new renovations added color to the floor removed the room at the north end to provide more
daylight and replaced the existing ceiling and lighting.  The new school colors were integrated into the
existing display cases.

Existing Link
New Link
The original building was added on to many times and this link between the first and upper grades needed some attention.
The floor had a history of damage due to no insulation in the floor which is above and exterior space.  The floor was
insulated and new carpet installed.  Addition insulation was also added to the ceiling as well as a new coat of paint and yes, new lighting.

In the middle of the building and classroom wings the "crossroads" also needed a

fresh new look.  The space was also out of scale with the rest of the
school.  We divided the space in all dimensions. In plan we created a better
path to and from the classroom wings and created a commons area for
small group activities.  The ceiling was also dropped to help create the
same
division of path and activities.  Then we added more color!

Existing Class Corridor
New Classroom Corridor

The existing corridors also offered a great place to brighten up the school.  New carpet and lighting softened the space
and invites the students into the corridors.  The old high school lockers were removed and new wood cubbies with
tackboard space above has been installed.  The cubbies freed up room in the classrooms for teaching.  One might think the
cubbies in the hallway would create a potential mess.  Since school has started we have returned and surprising enough
the students are keeping the hallways clean and their stuff in the cubbies.

Existing Wood Shop
New Wood Shop
Many of the elective spaces also got a new face lift.  The existing wood shop was left abandoned after the high school moved out.
Existing equiment from the closed middle school was moved into the exitsing space.  A new dust collecting system was added as well
as renovations to existing stairs and guardrails to bring them up to code.  Lighting was upgraded.
